Hi, we are shopping for my girlfriend's next car and are considering a Fit. (among also a Civic and Civic Hybrid and a few Toyota offerings as well) and though I'd join here and try to get some first hand knowledge. I'm a former Honda dealership tech so I'm already partial to them.

What do you get in real world city driving gas mileage? This far, how reliable has your car been? Are there any major defaults/recalls? What do you typically spend in maintenance? How often is the scheduled oil change interval and what types of fluids are required? Stuff like that.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Sorry about that - have to say that most of the Honda Fit owners are on another forum (FitFreaks) I just popped in here to see what was going on because I had not visited the site for awhile.

I have owned my Honda Fit for one year yesterday! I have to say it is one of the most fun cars I've ever owned. With the gas prices going up I can normally fill up my tank and run for 2 weeks on the same tank. Of course my commute to home and work is a quick 10 minute drive each day. I usually give the gas attendant $25.00 and get to go back in for my change of a few dollars or cents! It depends on how you drive for what gas milage you are going to pull with the Fit. I have been really happy with the gas milage on mine and it is nice to be driving a car that doesn't require you take out a loan to pay for gas.

The car has plenty of zip but some people are turned off by the sluggish nature of the car from 1st to 2nd gear - down shift is a little draggy but it never bothers me. It has plenty of go and I live in a state where we have lots of mountains but it does great on them. Of course storage is great too - 90 sq. cubic feet on the inside and those magic seats make it great for hauling. Now if you are into modding your car the Honda Fit is great for that. There are so many companies that offer parts to go on the car. My car has Mugen Window Visors, Mugen Racing Pedals, Mugen Rear View Mirror Cover and Mugen Door Sills. There are other items such as Mugen Neck Pillows, Mugen Shoulder Straps and the list goes on. I would post some pictures but unsure how to do it on this formum.

The down side to the Fit - Crappy carpet which is more like felt - the car will swirl in the paint unless you are very careful - no car hand washing drive through anymore. You can get them out with some elbow grease but it is just the nature of the paint. Now you do know that the gas tank is located under the drivers/passinger seats?
This is why the magic seats are able to go flat in the back. Other than this the rest is all good.

Make sure you go for a test drive and if you decide to get a Fit ask your dealer not to put the front license plate on unless you have to have one. They will drill holes into the body kit and if you get the sport you will not want that. I also made sure that they did not put the dealership logo on the back. It just looks cleaner with out it.

Well, hope this helps and sorry no one responded to your questions. Check out Fit Freaks and you'll find more activiity. There are over 23,000 people on the site and from all over the world.
