Roebling Road Rumble – September 2007
Well it was a short lived track day but the car handled great while it was running. We will start off with Friday night. We arrived about 8:00 PM at the track and started to get settled in at our camp site. We off loaded the car and a potential problem was found right away. A puddle had formed on the deck of the trailer from the car. After looking at the puddle it was determined to be coolant, so the hood on the car was popped and the search for a leak was on. We found a puddle of coolant on the transmission and followed upwards to places of potential leaks. Eventually the heater core hose was found to not be connected to the engine and that was the source of the coolant. The coolant was left over and had vibrated out of the hose during the drive to the track. On Saturday morning the car was looked over and the car was looking good. Final adjustments were made to the tire pressures and suspension settings and then it was off to the classroom for the morning instruction. After the classroom portion I met up with my instructor whom I had talked with and met at other track days before and we talked over car and the checks that had been made to it such as the torque of the lugs nuts and other safety type items. We got into the car and headed off to grid. As we sat on grid we talked about my track experience, my intentions, and other common items of the first day and session. Once out on the track the car felt good. It handled well and the instructor was sitting back and watching me for the first couple of laps to see where I was going to need work. On the next to last lap of the session coming into turn seven I started to hear a knock coming from the engine. I slowed down and was asked by the instructor if everything was alright. At that time I informed him that I was heading into the pits to see what the issue might be with that knock. As I entered the pits the oil light came on. This is never a good sign especially after having heard a knock from the engine. As I coasted down the pit and eventually came to a stop the car stalled. Things really are not looking good now. The instructor and I both hop out of the car and look under the hood. The instructor found something burning off of the backside of the motor. I am thinking it was the coolant from the night before, but also considering we might have a leak and the heater core was not really the problem. Black flag console walks over at this point to inform us that they have just checkered the session, so we decide to head back to my camp site. As I get in the car to move it, it will not turn over. At this point I am thankful for an already light car that has been completely gutted. The instructor and I begin to push it back to where I am set up at and pack the car. After letting the engine cool down some work begins to see what the issue might be. We first checked the oil and found a drop on the dip stick. At this point I am fairly certain what the issue is based on the knock, oil light, and no oil in the engine. The spark plugs are pulled and look to be good, the car seems to be cranking fine, and a shade tree compression test seems to show everything on the top end is fine. We put some oil in the engine and attempt to start it again. It starts this time and everything sounds fine. No vibrations or sounds are indicating something wrong on the bottom end. We then raised the RPMs up to about 3,000 and there was the knock. It was pretty much a sealed deal at this point that we had rod knock on our hands. This ended this year for us, so we will not be heading to
Barber Motorsports Park
in Leads, Alabama this year. With any luck we can have a better schedule next year and be able to be out on track more often as we continue to pursue

dam buddy dat suck is not ur day but i need to look in to dis honda challenge cuz im done with drag racing so i hope to see on da track 1day bro,,,if uno any info fill me in bro
